What’s new.
Skitchlet 0.3.0 brings more ways to point, focus and keep working. Free download for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later.
Version 0.3.0
Build 5 · Direct Mac download · Apple Silicon
- Keep edits through a crop. Change or reset the crop while annotations remain editable. Export uses the visible cropped dimensions. Zoom, pan, Fit Image and Actual Size help you work on larger images.
- Point and focus. Add numbered markers, spotlight and magnifier callouts. Use Solid, Dashed or Dotted strokes for arrows, rectangles, ellipses and freehand lines.
- Opaque redaction. Redact paints black over the selected region in flattened PNG output, including magnified views. Pixelation remains a visual effect. Inspect the exported image before sharing.
- Local draft recovery. Restore the current editor after reopening. Drafts keep original pixels, annotations and crop locally; export important work and do not share an editable draft to conceal source information.
- On-device text recognition. Extract Text reads the visible flattened image with crop and redaction applied. Review recognized text before copying it.
- Floating references. Pin a flattened image in its own window, then copy or save it. Pins are session-only and separate from the editable canvas.
- Project compatibility. Open existing .skitchlet projects for free, including earlier document formats. Saving editable projects is Pro-gated and unavailable in this release.
- Optional usage reporting. Off until you enable it in the app. Reporting covers a random installation identifier, version/build, OS major, architecture and coarse activity/export outcomes. No image, OCR text, filename or clipboard content is sent. Privacy details.
- Checked exports and recovery before restart. PNG export failures are surfaced, unfinished edits block unsafe exports, and the updater integration waits for pins to close before checkpointing the editor. Direct downloads use signed update metadata and archives. Users of 0.2.0 must manually install this first updater-enabled release.

Know the limits.
- One editable image at a time; pins are flattened references, not editable documents.
- PNGs are flattened. Local recovery is not a named editable project or cloud backup.
- Editable project saving requires Pro, and purchasing/activating Pro is not available in this release.
- Screen Recording permission is needed for capture. The capture shortcut remains fixed at ⌘⇧2.
- The direct download is arm64 only. There is no Intel or App Store package in this release.
- Opaque redaction applies to flattened output. Editable drafts/projects still contain the original image.
Version 0.2.0
The previous preview introduced native capture and annotation, PNG copy/save/drag, appearance choices and persistent menu bar access. It did not include optional usage reporting. The 0.3.0 download replaces it for new installations.
